This Study Visit is an integral part of the Quantity Surveying core module: International Cost Management (ICM) and is only open to QSCM, GDQS and MScQS students registered on this module for study in 2017/18. The programme includes an intensive two-day lecture, site visit, cultural programme and a course dinner on the third evening. The Study Visit primarily provides an important European dimension and academic support to the Semester 1 component of coursework for the ICM module.
For organisational, health and safety reasons, student numbers are limited to 42 and places will be allocated to the first 42 registering/paying on the UWE Online Shop before the closing date of 09 October 2017. For students unable to attend the Study Visit, a summary of study material gathered during the visit will provided online after the visit.
The Study Visit will be to Berlin and we will be travelling by air direct from Bristol to Berlin by Easyjet. Based on £150 for the flight, the total cost of the visit is expected to be £343, including airport/ hotel transfers, coach and metro travel whilst based in Berlin, B&B at a good 3* hotel in twin-bedded rooms, insurance, guided tours, lectures, site visits and course dinner in central Berlin, which, with a £118 subsidy from the University, gives a total cost to you as a student of £225.
UWE will book the hotel accommodation and local travel arrangements for the whole group, but not the Easyjet flight which will be your responsibility. Easyjet are currently quoting £150 per person for the return flight excluding any item of checked-in baggage. You need to book now as they have reduced the number of flights per day and we can expect the price to climb to well over £200 as the flights fill up. The Invoice cost from UWE to you for this Study Visit will be £75.
Do check that you have a valid passport and European Health Insurance Card with expiry dates at least one month beyond the return date. If you are a non-EU national and need to apply for a visa, you will need to apply at least six weeks before travelling and bear your own costs for this.
