Course Description

This one-day workshop offers an introduction to the art of suminagashi, or “floating ink,” a traditional Japanese marbling technique. Through guided demonstrations and hands-on practice, participants will learn how to prepare materials, control ink on water, and create expressive, flowing patterns. The course combines technical instruction with experimentation, encouraging a mindful and exploratory approach to mark-making. Suitable for all experience levels, it provides a foundation for incorporating this versatile process into a range of creative practices.

This will be a physical course, delivered in person at W Block on Frenchay Campus, University of the West of England.

The course is limited to a maximum of 12 participants, please sign up early to secure your place.
